Neighbourhood.

Several incredible neighbourhoods are on your doorstep. To the south of the Place de la République, the rue du Temple takes you through the heart of the Marais. A few blocks to the north, you’ll encounter the Canal Saint-Martin and its laid-back vibe. To the west, the Grands Boulevards lead to the Opera and well-known shopping destinations.

Drop your bags

  • Bounce* – secure luggage storage for those early arrivals and late departures. Our nearest location is just around the corner (here).

Eat

  • Sur Mer – beautifully presented seafood. Sharing plates. Small and casual. Evening reservations recommended.
  • La Marine – typical French brasserie, nicely restored on the banks of the Canal Saint Martin.
  • Chameleon – modern French. Good wine selection. Reservations recommended.
  • Le Cambodge – a Cambodian staple, along with it’s hip younger sibling, Le Petit Cambodge, one block away. No reservations.
  • Maria Luisa – pizza restaurant with outdoor seating. No reservations.
  • Marché des Enfants Rouges – an old covered market in the Marais with lots of small eateries.
  • Soya – welcoming vegan restaurant, along with its canal-front sister café, Soya Comptoir Bio.
  • Maison Plisson – a slightly longer walk from home, this is probably the finest grocery store on the rive droite (right bank). It also has a café and terrace with a varied brunch menu.

Drink

  • CopperBay – our friendly local cocktail bar run by award-winning mixologists.
  • Chez Prune – canal-side bar / café.
  • Hotel Providence – once a basic neighbourhood hotel, now beautifully renovated with a bar / restaurant serving both indoors and on its plant-lined terrace.
  • Lavomatic – laundromat by day, bar by night. Enter through one of the washing machine doors.
  • Ten Belles – coffee shop.

Shop

  • Du Pain et des idées – award-winning local bakery steeped in history. Try the signature “Pain des amis” bread. Closed on weekends.
  • Mamiche – Boulangerie de quartier – our everyday go-to bakery for bread and breakfast pastries, just 5 minutes from home.
  • Marché Saint-Martin – covered neighbourhood market with produce, fishmonger, butcher, wine, florist and more. We love the cheesemonger here – unpretentious, and with a good selection.
  • Cultures Caves – our local independent wine store. Regular tastings, and occasional book clubs / literary events in both English and French.
  • Supermarkets – Monoprix (largest), Carrefour City (smaller, across the street), and Franprix (the one on rue Bouchardon conveniently has an Amazon locker).
  • Aux Pechés Normands – local bakery with good pastries and sandwiches.
  • Julhès – gourmet food and wine spread across several small stores on the Faubourg Saint-Martin and Faubourg Saint-Denis.
  • La Boutique Caron – our local award-winning coffee roaster and coffee shop. Until recently, they only sold one signature blend, and it’s now available to take home in Nespresso-compatible capsules.
  • La Trésorerie and its annex across the street stock a tastefully curated selection of French and European homewares, furniture, gifts and accessories.
  • Jacques Genin – our favourite chocolatier presents beautiful gift-worthy chocolates, as well as a tea-room with pastries. (Hint: their Paris-Brest pastry is exquisite. Order a day or more in advance for a family-sized one to go.)
  • Artazart – canal-side book store specialising in art, architecture, photography and design.
  • Merci – nicely curated fashion and homewares.
